The erstwhile Kőszeg brewery introduced its very first brew 120 years ago, on May 9th, 1896.

 

 

In the 120 years since, the brewery has ceased to exist, along with nearly every mention of its beer. A thing of legend, these timeless traditions have now brought Kőszegi Beer to life.

 

The old brewery of Kőszeg (Güns) operated from 1896 until WWII. It produced a now rare specialty beer, even winning an esteemed award in Trieste once (1898). Alas, the beerworks ultimately fell victim to history’s relentless fury. The Second World War swept the brewery away, along with all the secrets of its trade. In the decades that followed, the Kőszeg brewery and its beer fell into oblivion: a few postcards, photographs and an empty bottle or two were all that remained. Locals speak of the old brewery as a thing of legend, but even that memory is gradually fading. Most of the younger generation have never even heard of the erstwhile Kőszeg brewery and its once celebrated beer.

 

 

In 2016, we delved deep into the legend of the old Kőszeg brewery and created Kőszegi Beer. 

We rediscovered the brewery’s signature style, all but forgotten in the past nearly one hundred years, in a specialty beer hardly known even in Europe, Vienna Lager.

 

And now we’ve brewed it for you to enjoy today!

"Specialist say bonbon making is the cream of confectionary. It is a great task for every master to create the harmony of sweet and bitter. It needs creativity, imagination, knowledge about raw materials and arranging a proper technology order - then precisely following it. Experts say, that each handmade bonbon is a masterpiece, which should not be compared with any factory products. A bonbon’s flavour as well as its shape should be enjoyed, as everything that is good in life, while consuming it in small pieces, memorizing its perfume. To explore the taste released from the filling is a wonderful thing, since the surprise can be experienced not only in the shape, but also together with the content, as a whole.
